Tonight I start my quest to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe at what I feel is a fair price.
I've never purchased a new car. All my life I've had the perception that the process might involve shaking hands with charlatans and chatting with cheaters. I feel, so far, my prejudices were confirmed. Hyundai sales reps have lied and deceived and I have yet even to receive a formal offer with details.
Hyundai Canada and Hyundai Motor Company of Korea (HMC) seem to be taking advantage of Canadians. Our trusting attitudes have cost us billions of dollars in the past couple of years, since our currency has reached parity with the US Dollar. Dealers are not blameless, of course. They represent the manufacturer and we have all heard of the bewildering array of sales incentives and manufacturer perks that they receive behind the scenes at our expense.
Sales incentives drive up the price of your car
My casual knowledge of the auto industry is enough to confirm that collusion and oligopolies are the way the wheel spins. Transport Canada and consumer groups like the CAA are letting us down. Manufacturers are too slow to respond to change and our governments need to stop pissing away billions of dollars in corporate welfare to keep these giant elephants alive.
More auto subsidies a hard case to make
